Peshawar: Pakistan’s northwestern city and provincial capitalĀ Peshawar has been rocked by four back to back blasts after rockets were fired while firing also took place inside Bacha Khan Airport and surrounding areas.
According to The News Tribe correspondent, the airport has been sealed after continuous firing while security forces have cordoned off the entire area. The total number of those killed or injured could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
Police officials said that three of the rockets fell in the residential University Town, Jamrud Road while one fell inside the airport.
Several buildings have also been affected in the incident and their glass shattered due to the effect of the blasts.
A flight from Karachi en route Peshawar has been redirected to Pakistani capital Islamabad.
Moreover, sources of Khyber Teaching Hospital have said that three dead bodies and many injured have been brought to the medical facility.
Four killed, 42 injured
According to unconfirmed media reports, four people have been killed while 42 have been injured in the terrorist attack, while the death toll is feared to escalate due to the magnitude of the incident.
There have also been reports that human body parts were seen scattered in the affected area.
Security high-alert
News sources said that ‘security alert’ has been declared at Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Islamabad Airports following the attack.
