Brendon McCullum replaces Ross Taylor as New Zealand captain

Auckland: Brendon McCullum has taken over as New Zealand new captain in all three formats after Ross Taylor refused to give up captaincy in ODIs and T20s.

Taylor, who scored 142 and 74 to help Kiwis level the Test series in Sri Lanka, was asked to retain the Test captaincy but step aside as skipper from shorter formats of the game.

Though Taylor will not travel to South Africa for an upcoming series, he has indicated he will be available when England tour starts from February next year.

“We regret that Ross Taylor has declined the opportunity, therefore McCullum has been appointed as Black Caps captain for all three forms of the game,” BBC Sport quoted New Zealand Cricket boss David White as saying.

“He thought about it long and hard and he said that he would like a break to spend time with his family and we’ve agreed to that and we respect it.”
