Auckland: Ross Taylor has been sacked as New Zealand captain in all three formats of the game, the New Zealand Cricket CEO David White confirmed in a press conference in Auckland on Friday.
Brendon McCullum will head the Black Caps when the series against South Africa begins on January 2, 2013 in Cape Town, becoming New Zealand’s 28th Test captain.
Though Taylor will not travel to South Africa, he has indicated he will be available when England tour starts from February next year.
White said the team’s new coach Mike Hesson initially recommended to retain Taylor as Test captain and have McCullum to lead the team in ODIs and T20s. The recommendation was approved by the board.
“Hesson had come to this conclusion after reviewing his two tours to India and Sri Lanka and the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka,” Stuff.co.nz reported.
But Taylor turned down the offer of splitting the captaincy and decided to take a break from the international cricket.
