Uttar Pradesh: The Darul Uloom Deoband of India has issued a decree that the Muslim prayer (Salat) cannot be offered with alcoholic perfume or tattoo on the body.
A large number of perfumes sold in this day and age consist of some percentage of alcohol, while tattoo-drawing on body has become a trend despite the restriction on it in Islam.
Diverse views can be found in the subcontinent comprising Pakistan and India on the ruling of alcoholic perfume. Scholars opposing the view say that alcohol is associated with the state of being drunk and this is not the case in its usage on clothes etc.
