Islamabad: Former president of Pakistan General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has said that he did not know about the presence of deceased Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Abottabad.
He hinted that the allegation is being leveled on him by some politicians to acquit themselves of the blame.
He said that Taliban exist in the form of groups and they are not organized, adding that Rangers should launch crackdown against them. He opined that police know more than intelligence agencies about the presence of such elements.
Musharraf reiterated that martial law in Karachi is imperative to establish peace here. He, however, said that action against just one group or political party is not a solution to the issue.
He recalled that he took against Taliban in Swat and ensured holding of elections there. He further said that ‘only four missile attacks’ took place during his tenure.
The former president said that both domestic and external elements are behind the growing unrest in the country. He further said that ‘only four missile attacks’ took place during his tenure.
“Terrorism in the name of religion must be stopped, while religious decree should be issued against those carrying out suicide attacks on the same pretext,” he said.
