Karachi: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Sunday said that his party will not allow a judicial martial law to be imposed in the country.
In a speech, broadcast to more than 38 cities, from Karachi to Azad Kashmir, the MQM chief said that the new delimitation of constituencies was being done to break the MQM vote bank.
Mr. Hussain said that remarks of a judge that delimitation should be done in such a way that no one party has monopoly, could be harmful for the country.
“Delimitation of constituencies is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP),” he said.
He also called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of statements which were objectionable.
“It is for the people to decide who should be elected and who should not. We will not let people rob us of our democratic right,” Altaf said.
The MQM chief also said that the country was still under the rule of a feudal system. He also said that members of a single family can still sit in important positions of power in the country.
Altaf Hussain also warned of a conspiracy against the MQM by creating ethnic divisions. He said that all efforts to wipe out the MQM have failed.
