Karachi: Former Test quickie Munir Malik, who served Pakistan for about three years, passed away here on Friday at the age of 78 after prolonged illness.
Munir, right-arm fast-medium bowler, played only three Test matches for the National team from Dec, 1959 to Jul, 1962.
The deceased has left behind five daughters to mourn his death. He was buried at PECHS Graveyard in Karachi, metropolitan of Pakistan.
He made his debut in the famous first Test against Australia played from Dec 4-9 in Karachi where in which he took three wickets, showing Richie Benaud, Norman O’Neill and Colin McDonald the way to pavilion.
Munir, who was born on July 10, 1934, Leiah, Punjab, ended his career with a last tour to England under Javed Burki in 1962. He clinched seven wickets in three Test matches he played during his short career.
Munir also took 197 wickets in 49 first class games between 1956-1966 while representing Punjab, Rawalpindi and Services teams.
