Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said parties including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National the main political Party (ANP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are working to maintain peace in Karachi. He said Karachi is a big city of more than twenty million diversified people.
In 1990s, curfew was imposed in Karachi while today, there was no such situation,he said talking to private TV channel.
He said Taliban, Afghan people and other organizations went to Karachi but they were not as much active as before. He said Karachi is such big and populated city where these people find space easily.This is also a cause of high crime rate in this city.
He accepted that the crime rate is high in this city as compared to other cities as more than dozen people have been killed every day.
Some people were demanding operation in Karachi to control this situation ,he added “We cannot shift the responsibility on a single party as ANP and MQM are the coalition partners of PPP.”
The Information Minister said that all the parties wanted to resolve the matter and added that efforts were being made in this regard.
Replying to a question he said central government will support provincial government regarding situation in Karachi.
Replying to a question regarding President’s participation in Eid Milan party at Malakwal, he said democratically elected President was part of the Parliament.
He said President had clearly stated in his speech that next general elections would be conducted in a fair, free and transparent manner.
He said those parties which didn’t participate in the previous elections were asked by President to come forward in the next elections.
Replying to another question he said all political parties meet the President when political decisions are to be taken.
