Lahore: The fifteen-day annual urs celebrations of great sufi saint Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Gunj Shakar has started in Pakpattan on Sunday.
Baba Farid was a 12th-century Sufi preacher and saint of the Chishti order of South Asia. Fariduddin Ganjshakar is generally recognized as the first major poet of the Punjabi language, and is considered one of the pivotal saints of the Punjab region.
Sajjada Nasheen Diwan Modood Masood Chishti will inaugurate the traditional urs celebration.
Main part of the urs is “Behishti Darwaza” which will be opened on 5th Muharram-ul-Haram for five days, Auqaf sources said.
District police have made foolproof security arrangements for the pilgrims, arriving from all the provinces of the country.
