Lahore: Setting a new record for his ‘simplicity culture’, Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Habib ur Rehman sent a Rs 552,500 bill to pay for lunch of 100 people, it is learnt.
Habib ur Rehman’s habit of overspending public funds even in the near days of his retirement is not unusual, sources said.
“His recently sent bill for lunch of 100 people was over Rs 500,000, which is even more than the cost of lunch for same number of persons in any five star hotel or international food chain.”
Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh RI Inspector Nazeer Bajwa, who is also known as “mini IG”, was the organizer of the lunch. Four days before he submitted a bill, with ref# HQ\SP\3753, of Rs552,500 for lunch of 30 police officials and their drivers and guards arranged on Eid by IG.
SP Headquarters Hasan Mushtaq Sukhera has passed the bill and has forwarded it to CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen for approval. It is not unlikely that CCPO will approve the bill without verifying it.
The IG since his appointment always has excuses of funds shortage whenever Chief Minister asks reasons about bad law and order situation. Contrary to that, even bills of snacks for meetings of police officials called by IG costs in tens of thousands.
