Islamabad: The government of Pakistan had sent a letter on November 5 to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, the country’s state television said on Wednesday.
According to the report, the text of the letter was same as agreed between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek.
It said the Foreign Office sent the letter to Swiss authorities on Monday.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had told the Supreme Court that the government would comply with a longstanding demand to reopen an old corruption case against the president, defusing a conflict that has roiled the country’s political system and led to the ouster of the last premier.
