Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry Monday said that the days had passed when the country’s stability was defined through missiles, tanks and armory of the country.
Addressing to the seventh management course in Islamabad, the Chief justice said that nowadays concepts of national interest had changed and today the judiciary was protecting the civil rights and working for the supremacy of the law.
“It is the responsibility of the Supreme Court to ensure the supremacy of the law,” he said adding that the judges of the apex court holds responsibility on their shoulders to provide justice to the people.
The Chief Justice also asked questions from the audience:
Do we regard hardworking and capability? Are twin principles of rule of law and supremacy of the constitution implemented in the true spirit in the country? Do the people trust on the system of the country and think that it provides opportunity to realize their dreams in a transparent manner? Do we have a system which discourages the looters and corrupt people? Do we have a system where civil and property rights are protected?
“Unfortunately, answer to the above questions is no, the system is distorted and does not provide people an opportunity to achieve in life whatever they are capable of,” CJP added.
