Islamabad: Mr. Tariq Mahmood a HEC PhD scholar at Faculty of Pharmacy & Alternative Medicine Islamia University of Bahawalpur has been short listed under the category “Young Researcher” of the Lush Prize 2012.
He is the only one young scholar who has been nominated from whole Asia. Total 6 young scholars have been nominated for this prestigious award from all over the world including Pakistan, USA, UK, Norway, Italy and Portugal.The winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony to be held on November 15th 2012 in London.
The Lush Prize is a major global initiative which focuses on toxicity testing for consumer products in a way which complements the many projects already addressing the use of animals in medical testing. The prize consists of a £250,000 annual fund – the biggest prize in the non-animal testing sector. The prizes are being awarded to the most effective and outstanding projects and individuals who have been working towards the goal of a replacing animal use in product safety testing.
Mr. Tariq Mahmood who was awarded HEC indigenous scholarship demonstrated superior analytical research capabilities and soon became an expert in the area of cosmetics development, safety and efficacy. He has been able to publish his work in world reputed journals. He along with his supervisor introduced 1st study of explaining avoidance of animal testing in cosmetics safety testing. As a researcher, Mr. Tariq played a key role in designing and conducting study which could be presented as alternate method of assessing cosmetics and topical formulations safety by ensuring animal free testing.
Based on his recent research work on skin irritation and safety testing, he has been short listed for the prestigious award. The senior management of HEC and Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Bahawalpur have congratulated him.
