Islamabad: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the reconciliation with the opposition is a futile activity the current situation.
Addressing the fifth national conference of South Asian Free Media Association (SEFMA) in Islamabad on Sunday‚ He said that the pain of Malala Yousafzai and other children who were victims of terrorism was his pain. “All segments of the society need to sit together to defeat the mindset that attacks innocent girls like Malala Yousafzai.”
He said that no lawyer was ready to fight the case of Salaman Taseer’s, the former Punjab governor, assassination. “But on the other hand a former chief justice was voluntarily ready to represent the accused in the case,” he added.
President Zardari said that many countries had assured us their help when Pakistan began fight against the terrorism but China was the only country which helped the country (Pakistan) in the war.
The president said that actions in Swat and other places were taken with consensus, adding that no action would be taken without consensus.
He also asked the media to show the other side of the picture also.
He said that his party still believes in the politics of reconciliation. “The policy of reconciliation was Benazir Bhutto’s vision, not mine.”
The President said that he did not claim that the last four and a half years period was perfect by all means‚ but despite numerous problems‚ including natural calamities‚ the government did its best to come up to the people s expectations.
