Sanaa: Some unidentified men Tuesday assassinated a senior Yemini intelligence officer in the capital Sanaa in a drive-by shooting, a security official said.
According to media reports, unidentified armed men killed Gen. Khaled al-Hashim on the spot and fled the scene early Tuesday.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the security official said that Al-Hashim was one of a number of Iraqi military experts hired by Yemen after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
It is to be mentioned here that Ansar-al-Sharia, an off-shot of global terror network, had assassinated several top Yemini military officials in order to avenge a U.S.-backed army offensive against the group’s strongholds in towns and cities seized amid the chaos of last year’s popular uprising.
