Karachi: Thousands of people, belonging to different religious parties, took out a rally against the US made anti- Islam film on Saturday in Karachi.
Top leadership of the Barelvi school of thought participated in the rally. The participants, holding green flags and chanting slogans against the film maker were addressed by Suuni Tehreek chief Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, Ruit-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufi Muneebur Rehman , TV host Amir Liqqat Hussain and other religious scholars.
The leaders of the religious parties pressed for an international law against blasphemous acts and condemned the film that hurt Muslims across the world.
Amir Liaquat Hussain said those who were holding violent protests should learn from the Ahl-e-Sunnat as to how a peaceful event was organized.
The participants of the rally thronged the city’s main artery M.A Jinnah Road from Numaish Chowrangi to Tibet Center.
Speaking on the occasion ST chief Sarwat Ijaz Qadri demanded of the government to immediately release Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer. “Lovers of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) will break doors of jail if you don’t release Mumtaz Qadri,” he warned.
Strict security arrangements were made to thwart any untoward incident with the heavy deployment of Rangers police.
