Dera Murad Jamali: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has announced a special relief package of worth Rs2.6 billion for the three districts of Balochistan affected by the recent flash floods.
The PM made announcement during his visit of the flood-hit areas of Dera Murad Jamali on Sunday and directed the authorities to release the amount immediately.
Addressing a public gathering, he also announced compensation worth Rs 0.4 million each for the families of those who have lost lives in the flood.
The Prime Minister directed for immediate release of Rs 600 million only to cope with food needs of three flood-hit districts.
“The government will try its utmost to cope with the situation through well-coordinated efforts,” he added. He said after rescue and relief effort, foremost priority should be the rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure that has been badly damaged by the floods. The whole area is under water, he added. Initially, he said that the federal government would release Rs 2 billion for infrastructure rehabilitation.
The package includes an amount of Rs 2 billion for restoration of the damaged infrastructure and Rs 600 million for the relief goods, mainly food and medicines.
Prime Minister Ashraf, who also attended the meeting to review the flood situation, directed that in case of transportation problem, a C-130 aircraft be used for immediate disbursement of relief goods.
