Islamabad: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has accused Punjab government of sending police personnel to participate in violent protest in Islamabad.
Speaking to media on Saturday, he said that the Islamabad police on Friday arrested six officials of the Punjab police, who were later released by their colleagues in the federal capital.
I have suspended the Assistant Sup-Inspector for releasing the policemen, Malik added.
Malik said that an inquiry had been ordered into the matter. He said that the Punjab police personnel were to enter Convention Center Islamabad.
The minister applauded police department for its efforts during the furious protests over US-made anti-Islam film.
He announced that the injured police constables would be elevated to the posts of Assistant Sub-Inspectors.
