New Delhi: In a shocking move by All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Saturday, the two Indian tennis stars Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna were banned for two years from representing their home team.
According to Indian media reports, the two players had objected to partnering Leander Paes at the London Olympics. Following which AITA sent two doubles team – one of Bhupathi and Boppana, and the other of Paes and Vishnu Vardhan.
AITA also decided to go in with a new-look and young team for the ongoing Davis Cup for India’s home encounter against New Zealand.
The decision was taken in an executive committee of AITA on Saturday. Reportedly, the two have been banned from playing in Davis Cup for the country till June 30, 2014.
