Islamabad: Telenor and Zong have recently reduced the commissions of their retail agents for providing services of branchless banking that caused strike of services in the capital and surrounding cities.
Telenor considered as pioneer in the branchless banking services has curtailed commissions from 3 percent to 2.8 percent on transactions whereas the other operators in their soft launch operations has cut profit margin of retailers from 4 percent to 3 percent.
Hundreds of retailers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have stopped working for two cellular phone companies after their demand to revert commission decline was rejected.
The retailers have not only stopped providing branchless banking to customers but they have also decided not to sell the SIM, easyload and scratch card of these two operators in protest.
They have formed an association throughout the Islamabad and different cities in order to build pressure against telecom operators—Telenor and Zong.
According to sources, the association is being convinced retail agents to get involved in their protest in order to push telecom companies for revert their decisions.
Telecom operators, on the other hand, are incurring losses due to the strike of retail agents that have entered into fourth day.
Consumers though are suffering also but majority of them are using services of different operators due to the on going strike.
