Dubai: Pakistan cricket team Wednesday outplayed Australia in the opener of the T20 series played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, defeating them by seven wickets.
It was the biggest defeat to Australia by balls to spare in T20s.
The hosts easily chased a low scoring target of 90 runs in 15 overs for the loss of three wickets. Kamran Akmal 31 remained the leading run scorer accompanied by Imran Nazir 22 and Hafeez 17.
Australian bowlers tried their best to restrict Pakistan before the total but failed in their attempt. Hilfenhaus, Cummins and Watson shared one wicket each.
Earlier, Pakistan ruined the Australian batting line, restricting the guest team to 89 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. Sohai Tanvir, who took three wickets, remained the leading wicket-taker followed by Hafeez, Ajmal and Hasan sharing two wickets each while Umar Gul took one wicket only.
The strong Australian batting line failed to make any impression with only three batsmen Warner 22, Bailey 14 and White 15 entering into the double figures.
The win would boost the morale of the team after losing ODI series against the guests.
Ceremony:
Bailey: “Completely outplayed. The pitch was a little bit slow, but the top order need to bat for longer and score more runs, that is the name of the game in T20. We are working towards the World T20, and this is the first step towards that.”
Mohammad Hafeez is the Man of the Match.
Hafeez: “Great team effort. Bowlers stuck to their plans, Raza Hasan showed a lot of character for a debutant.”
