Sanaa, Yemen: A top al Qaeda militant in Yemen was killed in a US drone strike on Sunday, the country’s military officials said.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement on that Khaled Batis, wanted for allegedly masterminding a 2002 attack on a French oil tanker, was among five militants riding a vehicle struck by a drone Friday in the southern city of Hadramawt, The Associated Press reported.
Military officials said the drone was American.
The US frequently targets militants in Yemen with drone strikes and also advises the country’s ground forces, though it rarely acknowledges its role.
