Berlin: Facebook is violating privacy laws through its news app centre, says Germany’s biggest consumer lobby group, setting deadline of September 4 for the site to either fix the problem or face legal action.
The German federation of consumer organisations said on Monday that Facebook was giving away customer data via its new app centre without notifying users, Reuters reported.
A spokeswoman said Facebook would face legal action if it failed to fix the problem before the deadline.
The deadline comes just weeks after the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information said he would reopen his investigation into Facebook’s policies on tagging photos, retaining and deleting data and the level of control users have over their information.
However, Germany Facebook’s spokesman declined to comment on the issue, saying the company was looking into the matter.
