Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has annulled Rs. 14 billion worth “Safe City Project” in Islamabad, the capital city.
The decision was taken by a 3-member bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed on Thursday.
The petition of annulling the project was filed by Babar Sattar and Athar Minallah terming it a ‘nontransparent’ project.
The project envisages security cameras and CCTVs to be installed all over the city and other security measures will be taken under the project. The project has been awarded to a Chinese company.
A plea was also filed in this regard by a journalist named Shahid Orakzai who had alleged that the equipment for the project was being purchased at three times the market price.
