Seoul: LG display has started mass production of thinner flat screen for Apple’s next generation iPhone 5 as few weeks remain in release of the new iPhone.
Han Sang-beom LG’s chief executive said “we have just began production and we don’t expect any disruption in supplies”.
Apple is planning a major product launch on September 12 and is likely to announce the sale of its redesigned iPhone.
Apple’s next generation iPhone is being equipped with large screen after the release of Samsung’s Galaxy S III which has a 4.8 inch touch screen.
According to “Hindustan Times”, Apple’s next generation iPhone will be 4 inches corner to corner which is 30% bigger than the current iPhone.
The iPhone screen will also be thinner than current versions with the use of so-called in-cell panels. The new technology embeds touch sensors into the liquid crystal display, eliminating the touchscreen layer found in current iPhones.
Japan’s Sharp also said earlier this month it would start shipping screens destined for a new iPhone in August.
