Jeddah: The fourth extraordinary summit of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), convened by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, has entered into the last phase, here on Wednesday.
The summit was called by Saudi King in order to resolve problems faced by Muslim world including the suppression of Muslims by Syrian regime led by President Bashar-al-Assad and Myanmar (Burma) and the influence of Arab spring on Middle East.
The summit would also discuss other regional and international issues faced by the Muslim world in the last session of the summit.
There is an imminent chance that the summit would uniformly suspend the OIC membership of Syria.
On the other hand, Iran has stood up firmly against the suspension of Damascus from the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), saying the Syrian crisis can be resolved through a comprehensive internal dialogue and not from a policy of exclusion.
President Asif Ali Zardari represented Pakistan in the summit. Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Muhammad Naeem Khan were also present at the meeting.
Earlier in the first session of the summit on Tuesday, King Abdullah said that the violence that is claiming Muslim lives across the globe was due to division of the Islamic world.
“Because of division, the blood of the Muslim nation is shedding,” King Abdullah said in the summit’s opening speech.
The OIC President, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, also addressed the representatives of different countries in first session and said that Muslim unity is the only way for the Muslims to lead the world.
