Islamabad: The coalition parties meeting, presided by President Asif Ali Zardari, on Friday ended up with a consensus that the parliament would be the supreme authority for any law making in the country.
In a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Farhat Ullah Babar, the coalition parties agreed that the constitution only gives elected members of the Assembly to amend the laws.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, PML-Q Leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Deputy PM Pervaiz Elahi, MQM leader Babar Ghori, Farooq Sattar, ANP leaders Haji Adeel, Afrasiyab Khattak, FATA leader Munir Orakzai, BNP leader Israr Ullah Zehri and others were also present.
The meeting concluded that parliament’s sovereignty would be safeguarded at any cost.
“The coalition parties would continue to work with more unity in the crisis situation,” the statement said adding that the government would counter the current challenges with full force.
The meeting also decided to use all available resources to encounter extortion incidents in Karachi and terrorism across Pakistan.
