London: US swimmer Michael Phelps won gold on Thursday in the men’s 200m individual medley at 2012 London Olympics, claiming record 20th Olympic medal.
Phelps beat countryman Ryan Lochte. Laszlo Cseh of Hungary took bronze.
Phelps became the first swimmer to win gold in the same event in three straight Olympics. He is expected to retire after the London games.
Lochte took bronze in the 200m backstroke early Thursday, beaten by American teammate Tyler Clary and Ryosuke Irie of Japan in the undercard for swimming’s main event.
