The CNN Belief Blog asked a question from its readers about God’s presence in the tragic Colorado massacre that killed 12 people and left 58 wounded.
In response to a question “Where was God in Aurora?” over 10,000 people have responded yet.
CNN’s blogger Stephen Prothero counted seven different answers to this question:
1. There is no God.
2. Don’t blame God, blame Satan.
3. Don’t blame God, blame us.
4. God was behind the massacre, and it was just.
5. God was present at the massacre but with the victims, not the perpetrator
6. Which God?
7. Who knows? It’s a mystery
Though the blogger didn’t tell the percentage of the respondents supporting a particular category, he points out to the online activism of atheists.
“Self-professed atheists may make up only 2% of the U.S. population, but they are extraordinarily active online.”
Meanwhile, a respondent frowned upon the ‘blindness’ of the CNN’s question and his comment was termed by the blogger as “the best of the hundreds I read”:
“Oh, the blindness of such a question… as if only theodicy was a relevant question in white, American suburbs. Where is God in Afghanistan? Where is God in Gaza? Where is God in Syria? . . . Where is God, indeed.”
