London: In honor of London Olympics 2012, London’s Big Ben will ring for more than 40 times to rejoice the first day of the Olympic Games.
And with Big Ben, all other kinds of bells will also ring across the UK for three minutes (from 8.12 to 8.15) on this Friday, 27 July. Anyone can take part in this historic moment by ringing any kind of bell for three minutes.
Big Ben, the hour bell of Westminster, will strike out of the schedule for the first time since 15 February 1952, when it rung for the funeral of King George VI.
It is going to be historic moment for world’s most famous bell. “It is a sign of how special this summer is when one of the world’s most famous bells will ring outside its regular schedule so it can be part of this London 2012 Festival commission,” said John Bercow MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons.
Ruth Mackenzie, Director of London 2102 Festival and the Cultural Olympiad, expresses his excitement, “All the Bells is London 2012 Festival’s biggest community project, and we are incredibly excited that it allows everyone in the UK the chance to be part of history in the making as we aim to set a world record for the largest number of bells to be rung simultaneously.”
