Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Friday formed a five-judge larger bench to hear the petitions against new contempt law.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry comprises Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tasaduq Jilani, Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif will hear the case on July 23.
The chief justice — during initial hearing of the petitions against the law in the SC’s Quetta Registry last week — issued notices to Federation, prime minister, chairman senate, speaker national assembly, law minister, attorney general and cabinet division for July 23.
Almost 18 constitutional petitions have been filed against the law.
