Islamabad: A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL) corruption case and summoned former secretaries of Interior and establishment and former Director General FIA.
The bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing the NICL land case.
During the hearing, the CJ inquired DG FIA Fayyaz Leghari as to why the agency was slow to recover the money. He remarked that why he (the DG) was not recovering the money.
FIA’s Director Legal Muhammad Azam Khan told the bench that the only recovery remaining in the case was worth Rs480,000,000 and that it was to be made from Lahore.
Khan told the court that an FIR had been registered against members of the Warraich family after their cheques bounced.
The court also warned to cancel the passport of Mohsin Warraich, who is absconded to United Kingdom.
Chief Justice warned that if the FIA failed to recover the money, the case would be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case for three weeks.
