Washington: Apple’s CEO Tim Cook will meet leaders of Samsung in the United States upcoming Monday as a bid to settle patent dispute out of court before a jury trial begins on July 30.
According to Samsung and industry sources Thursday, Corporate Strategy Office Head Choi Gee-sung met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, reports Korea Times.
Some of the top executives of Korean tech giant was in US for the last week or so to discuss and final the matter with Apple.
“CEO Choi accompanied by mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun flew to the United States last Saturday, and met Apple CEO Cook in California, on July 16,” the sources said.
“The meeting was organized by the U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh of the Northern District of California.”
Both Apple and Samsung are business partners, with a bilateral trading amount over billions of dollars. This year, Apple is expected to spend $11 billion, up from $7.8 billion, in buying Samsung components.
`Both Samsung and Apple don’t want to see the matter further deteriorate because they are very important business partners,’’ the sources further said.
With Apple seems to got suspend Galaxy SIII sales in US after a court judgement, Samsung recently won a case in the United Kingdom on July 10 against its American rival, with Judge Colin Birss of the British High Court saying that Galaxy Tab was “not cool” enough to be judged a copy of iPad.
Samsung and Apple have been locked in a worldwide patent battle since last year. Apple first sued Samsung in April 2011, claiming that it “slavishly’’ copied the iPhone design. Samsung immediately countersued and since then the patent battle has spread to multiple continents, generating dozens of cases in 10 countries.
