Peshawar: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani visited army-posts on Afghan border in Upper Dir area on Friday.
Kayani applauded Jawans for their courage to foil cross border attacks by the militants. He said that sacrifices of armed forces were the shinning part of history.
The army chief said that the support of local people for the armed forces in Swat was laudable.
The army chief visit comes days after series of militants attacks on Pakistani check-posts near Afghan border, in which several Jawans and militants have been killed.
Pakistan blamed Maulvi Fazlullah group of Pakistan Taliban for attacks on its forces in tribal areas near Afghan border.
It said the fugitive cleric Maulvi Falullah is based in Afghan province of Khunnar. Some media reports say the cleric, whose militants were thrown out from Swat valley in a large military offensive, wanted to avenge his defeat.
A Pakistani newspaper on Friday claimed that the Maulvi is operating in Afghanistan freely and enjoyed support of Afghan and US forces to launch attacks on Pakistan.
Pakistan’s army chief also raised the issue with ISAF commander John Allen during his visit to the country this week.
Kayani urged the commander to tack action against the anti-Pakistan militants while some media reports claimed that Pakistan’s powerful military chief threatened to send his troops inside Afghanistan to crush the militants, attacking Pakistan.
Relations between Pakistan and US plunged to new ebb after cross border attack on Pakistan in November last year that led to killing of over dozen soldiers.
