Islamabad: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has nominated Makhdoom Shahabuddin as the PPPĀ and its allies candidate for the post of prime minister.
Former Water and Power Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf would be the covering candidate of Makhdoom Shahabuddin.
Both the candidates would submit their nomination papers in the National Assembly secretariat on Thursday. Secretary NA Karamat Niazi would receive the nomination papers for the premiership by 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 21.
NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will carry out scrutiny of the nomination papers at 3:00 PM the same day.
The candidates, whose nomination papers are found in order, will be eligible to contest election for the office of the prime minister. However, any candidate who desires to quit the contest can withdraw his nomination papers any time.
Introduction of Makhdoom Shahabuddin:
Makhdoom Shahabuddin is a Pakistani politician and a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan (February 2008-present) who has held federal ministerial portfolios for finance, health and textiles.
He belongs to Rahim Yar Khan, a city in the Seraiki belt of southern Punjab, Pakistan and his political affiliation is with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Shahabuddin is also a Sajjada Nashin or the descendant of a sufi saint like his predecessor Yousuf Raza Gilani.
