Islamabad: A full court meeting of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry held here on Friday.
During the meeting, Supreme Court Registrar Faqir Hussain briefed the meeting about the controversial TV interview of real estate tycoon Malik Riaz, the main character of country’s one of the biggest ever scandals.
The Registrar told the meeting that the interview was an attempt to defame the apex court while prime minister’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani also telephoned in the middle of the interview. He said the video footage showed planted questions were asked during the interview.
Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Abdul Jabbar was also present during the meeting. The unedited video played in the meetinmg.
The Chief Justice asked what could he done into matter as the Court was being vilified on TV channel. He said the conspiracy against the court had exposed. ” Even parliament cannot discuss the court,” he said.
“Wasn’t there any violation, it is very serious issue,” the CJ quizzed the PEMRA chief.
Jabbar told the meeting that the PEMRA took action against channels if it received complaints.
