Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s health secretary, has confirmed that Legionnaires’ disease cases have risen to 40.
While talking to a news conference, she informed that the major sources of the disease was probably 16 cooling towers in the south west of the capital, BBC reported.
Ms Sturgeon answered questions alongside Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer Sir Harry Burns and chair of NHS Lothian’s incident management team, Dr Duncan McCormick.
She termed the outbreak as a “significant event” for NHS Lothian and said the government had activated their emergency plan.
She said that sixteen cooling towers in the city had been treated with chemicals to kill the bacteria and the number of cases will likely to decrease.
