Skardu: The body of another martyred army officer has been unearthed from underneath tonnes of snow in Gyari sector, where a massive avalanche had swept over a battalion of Pakistani troops camped there on April 7.
This latest breakthrough brings the total tally of the martyrs reclaimed from the snowslide so far to seven.
The body has been identified as of Lt Colonel Tanveer-ul-Hassan Shaheed.
He was the Commander of the “6 Northern Light Infantry (NLI) Battalion.
A total of 139 people—soldiers and civilians—were buried under the ice on April 7, 2012 and since then an operation is under way to rescue the victims.
The rescuers found the bodies near the check post where the soldiers were present at the time of the tragedy and there are hopes that more bodies will be found nearby.
A team of around 450 local and foreign rescuers have been working round the clock at Gyari sector, though there are little chances of any survivors after nearly two months of the incident.
