Islamabad: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Thursday took the oath as permanent Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court, attended by apex court’s judges, Election Commission officials and others.
Justice Saeed, who has been serving as Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC), was elevated to the Supreme Court after the Judicial Commission finalised its recommendations over his name and sent it to the Parliamentary Committee on appointment of judges of the superior judiciary, which gave its approval.
According to the official web site of the LHC, Justice Saeed had obtained his LLB degree in 1978 and joined the legal profession the same year at Rawalpindi and was enrolled as an advocate after completion of apprenticeship.
After working in various chambers, he started his independent practice in Lahore in 1980 and was enrolled as an Advocate of the LHC and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1981.He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the LHC from 12 January, 2004 and on confirmation took oath as Judge of the LHC on January 12, 2005.
