Cairo: Presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq campaign headquarters has been torched in Cairo on Monday, an Egyptian television channel reported.
The ex-Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq has made it into the second round of the vote after the general in the country on May 23.
Images of a fire were broadcast by the privately-owned Al-Hayat channel. It said that a group of protesters put Shafiq’s headquarters on fire, though no injuries were reported.
Shafiq was Hosni Mubarak’s last prime minister and his success in the first round of the presidential vote has angered protesters who regard him as a symbol of the deposed president’s rule. Shafiq will face the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Mursi in the June 16-17 run-off, Reuters reported.
