Texas: The US First Armored Division, along with soldiers from the US Air Force and the US Army Special Forces took part in the drills in Texas to prepare for the fresh deployment in Afghanistan.
“The training that we conducted today is very similar to the types of missions we will be accomplishing in Afghanistan,” AP quoted sergeant of the US Army Grant Omer as saying.
A security pact between Afghanistan and the US allowed the latter to remain in Afghanistan 2014. The American soldiers participating in the drills will be dispatched to Afghanistan this fall.
The deal allows the US military to stay in Afghanistan for at least another decade after 2014, when most foreign forces are planning to pull out of the country.
On May 2, US President Barack Obama signed the deal with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai to provide aid, advisers and support for a period of 10 years after the expected departure of foreign combat troops in 2014.
The military exercises were carried out on the Fort Bliss base in Texas earlier this month.
