Virginia: Mitt Romney, possible Republican candidate of US election has rejected same-sex marriage when quoting Christian values and traditions of the society.
The News Tribe Political correspondent Farhan Shahid says Romney is Mormon by religion and it is possible that he has plan to gain support from evangelical Christians for republican ticket.
Before Governor Romney spoke, Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. addressed the commencement day crowd of approximately 34,000. He reminded the audience that his father, the late Reverend Jerry Falwell, founded the university in 1971 to be for evangelical Christians “what Notre Dame is to young Catholics and Brigham Young is to young Mormons.”
“Marriage is a relationship between one man and one woman,” Romney says when addressing to graduates at Liberty University, a Christian college in Virginia.
This clarification from Mitt Romney comes after the Obama’s statement in favor of same-sex marriages this week.
Romney opposes gay marriage; he has said that same-sex couples should have some rights, including the ability to adopt children.
Earlier this week North Carolina has become the 30th US state to adopt a ban on gay marriage after approving a constitutional amendment making the marriage an affair only between a man and a woman.
In Southern parts of United States especially North Carolina, once a bright spot for President Obama, is now more like a political migraine, where one in three swing voters strongly opposes allowing gays and lesbians to wed” said Katrina Jones The News Tribe’s correspondent from United States.
Political analysts believe that same-sex marriages is now another useful topic for possible republican candidate as the economy and job creation already has been Mitt Romney’s calling card.
