Kharkiv, Ukraine: Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko has agreed to end her hunger strike 19 days after she had went on the move.
She was on hunger strike since April 20, accusing prison guards of badly bruising her during an earlier attempt to move her to hospital for backache treatment.
Her daughter, Yevgenia Tymoshenko, said her mother would be moved to hospital tomorrow (Wednesday) and a German doctor would treat her.
She is serving a seven-year prison sentence on the charges of abuse of authority.
After probing her claim, the prosecutor said no proof was found in support of her allegations, but Catherine Ashton, EU foreign policy chief, said last month that the report was confirmed by the Ukrainian Ombudsperson’s Office.
Ashton called on Ukraine “to examine promptly and impartially any complaints of torture or other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.”
Her daughter said the ex-prime minster “appears to have lost 10kg (22lbs), her temperature has dropped significantly and she may pass out any minute now”.
