Karachi: A one-day training workshop was organised to inculcate Gender Sensitivity in members of the non-teaching staff of Karachi University by the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies.
“Workplace harassment and gender discrimination is not an uncommon phenomenon in the working hubs of Pakistan. It is unfortunate that fewer efforts are made to overcome the social and economical crises that the women face as a result of this trait. A positive fact is that now the law of Pakistan provides substantial protection for employees from workplace misconduct by their employers or co-workers.
“However, despite existing laws and policies enacted to protect individual dignity, many employees continue to suffer from workplace harassment and employment discrimination, in such circumstances individual awareness could give fruitful results”, these views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaisar, Director, Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies – Prof. Dr. Nasreen Aslam Shah, Prof. Dr. Tahira Aftab and others.
This initiative was taken by the Director, Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies – Prof. Dr. Nasreen Aslam Shah. The main objective of the workshop, as discussed by the Director, was to make the participants aware of the possible solution that can help in overcoming the gender discrimination. Around 25 participants attended the training session which were awarded with certificate and cash prizes. Mrs. Shagufta Nasreen, Asma Manzoor, Syed Faisal Hashmi and M. Fareed Ahmed actively participated in the organisation of the event.
