Karachi: At least seven people including three children were killed and 30 others injures as gun battle and grenade attacks continued in the narrow lanes of Lyari neighbourhood on sixth consecutive day on Thursday.
Mobile phone services were shut in the area to cut communication between the armed groups confronting the law enforcers. Water and electricity supply also remained suspended.
Around 100,000 people have been suffering due to heavy exchange of fire over the last six days and run short of basic necessities like, food,water, milk etc.
The government is considering Rangers deploying in the area as police seem to be failed in advancing in the narrow streets of the oldest neighbourhood of the metropolis.
The Medico Legal Officer of the Civil Hospital told The News Tribe correspondent, that seven dead bodies and 40 injured including five police personnel were shifted to hospital, adding that the victims include three children and a woman.
People were seen leaving their houses as law enforcers continued efforts to overcome gangsters holed up in the area.
Some unknown armed men also attacked the residence of Rafique Engineer, the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) provincial minister, and set his house on Fire in Lyari.
The secondary borad has also announced to cancel the paper of ninth class in Lyari’s centers due to the tense situation.
