Madrid: The 160th birthday of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, the Nobel Prize winner, is being observed today. Santiago Ramón y Cajal is the father of modern neuroscience. After studying at the University of Zaragoza, he developed two nerve-specific stains, allowing him to differentiate neurons from other cells.
His pioneering investigations of the microscopic structure of the brain were original: he is considered by many to be the father of modern neuroscience.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1906 for establishing the neuron as the basic unit of the nervous structure. He was also an incredible drawer. Many of this illustrations are still used today.
