Brussels: Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Thursday demanded Pakistan to restore routes of Nato supply from Pakistan to Afghanistan, which were stopped after Nato airstrikes on Salala check-post killing at least 26 Pakistani soldiers.
Giving a press briefing in Brussels, Rasmussen said that there were two hindrances in relations with Pakistan.
“One is Nato supply route and the other is safe heavens of militants in tribal areas,” he added.
Rasmussen stressed Pakistan for swift action against the safe heavens of militants in the tribal areas of the country bordering Afghanistan.
“It is in Pakistan’s interest to launch operation against militants,” he added.
The secretary General said that Pakistan’s action against militants was necessary in order to maintain peace in the region including Afghanistan.
He further said that Nato wanted to maintain strong and better ties with Pakistan.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Parliament unanimously approved Parliamentary Committee of National Security (PCNS) recommendations focusing mainly on re-engagement of ties with US and restoration of Nato supplies but until now the routes were not restored.
