Islamabad: The seven-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk continued hearing the contempt case against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza on Monday.
Aitzaz Ahsan, the PM s counsel, pleaded the bench to put the order in National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) on hold. He said the court started the trial against the Prime Minister after the suo motu notice, adding that there was no complaint against his client.
“The trial is a violation of Article 10 of the constitution,” Aitzaz said.
Justice Nasirul Mulk rejected Aitzaz’s plea and said that the bench would give its order in NRO case on Monday (today).
Previously, the court had announced its decision on NRO whereby ordering Gilani to correspond with the Swiss authorities, without seeking anyone’s advice. The court believes that his refusal to correspond is equivalent to non-compliance.
PM had earlier requested the court to defer the proceedings of NRO implementation case however, the court rejected his request.
