Washington: Although the Pakistani parliament demanded United States (US) to stop drone attacks in Pakistan but US officials said that White House has no intentions to end CIA drone strikes against militant targets on Pakistani soil, media reported on Friday.
According to report by US News agency which stated that these statements would possibly create tensions among the two countries up for diplomatic talks after Pakistan’s parliament unanimously approved new guidelines for the country’s troubled relationship with the United States.
U.S. officials said that they would work in coming weeks and months to find familiar ground with Pakistan, but if a suspected terrorist target comes into the laser sights of a CIA drone’s hellfire missiles, they will take the shot.
The White House was also considering issuing an official apology for the deadly border incident, two senior U.S. officials say, which would help ease Pakistani outrage and demonstrate the Pakistani government wrested at least one major concession from the US.
Responding to the US official statement a Pakistan official told media on the condition of anonymity that it was not the first time the U.S. ignored Pakistan’s parliament, which demanded an end to drone strikes in 2008.
“What’s different now is that the Pakistani government is in a more fragile political state, and can no longer continue its earlier practice of quietly allowing the U.S. action while publicly denouncing it,” Pakistani officials said.
Pakistani parliament on Thursday approved Parliamentary Committee of National Security (PCNS) recommendations on re-engagement of ties with foreign countries especially with US while it also focuses on the restoration of Nato supplies from Pakistan to Afghanistan.
US officials including state department and Pentagon have said that they were scrutinizing the 14 recommendations given by Pakistan and soon a consensus would be build-up between both the countries.
The recommendations which would hurt US were regarding the ban on supply of arms from Pakistan and demand to stop drone attacks in tribal areas of Pakistan.
In this regard the US officials have always blamed Pakistan for supporting terrorist groups like Haqqani Network and said that miscreants from Pakistan’s tribal areas were attacking US and Nato soldiers in Afghanistan and they have made safe heavens there.
It should be pertinent to mention here that many political parties in Pakistan have announced to launch a protest in Pakistan if Nato supplies would be restored.
