Karachi: Pakistan former spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, present bowling coach of English team, is once again being not accepted as bowling coach after refusal of Pakistan’s cricket authorities.
“Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf has refused to induct Mushtaq as a bowling coach for Green Shirts,” board’s insiders disclosed.
The refusal emerges as head of Coach Searching Committee Intikhab Alam has almost reached a deal with former spinner.
Zaka Ashraf also nodded to assign Mushtaq the task of bowling coach.
But scenario changed after David Whatmore was appointed as head coach of Pakistan team.
“Whatmore is of view that Pakistan needs a good coach for fast bowlers,” PCB sources said.
“Pakistan already has a pool of experienced and talented spin bowlers who are performing well in all formats of cricket.”
After demand of head coach, PCB is now considering inducting the coach to groom inexperienced fast bowlers.
“PCB can afford only once coach; either for spinners or for fast bowlers owing to its limited budget.”
So far searching committee has received 12 applications for post of bowling coach out of which favorites are Mushtaq Ahmed and fast bowlers Aaqib Javed, Ian Pont and Muhammad Akram.
